Ullman Sails Detroit is a Full Service Sail Loft. We service all brands and types of sails and canvas accessories for your boat. Our 2,000 square foot elevated assembly floor has six sewing stations built in around its perimeter. This is complemented by air and hydraulic powered finishing tools that enable us to accomplish any task required to repair and re-cut sails. We carry a full inventory of sail cloth materials and hardware to meet the needs of our service department. Our service personnel are highly skilled in sail manufacturing and sail repair with over 100 years of combined experience in the sail making industry. At Ullman Sails Detroit we are ready to repair or do routine maintenance to get you ready for your next race or cruise. We service both racing and cruising sails. We also offer sail re-cuts to maximize the performance of any sail that an owner has in their boat’s inventory. The Ullman Sails Detroit loft is equipped with the latest in sail design software for custom designing sails for any boat. We also have our own in-house plotter for laying out and cutting sail panels based upon our exclusive sail designs. From routine maintenance to recuts our knowledgeable staff can get the job done at a competitive price.

Sail Inspection and Evaluation
Ullman Sails Detroit offers a full inspection and evaluation of an owner’s sail inventory both sailing onboard the boat and at our loft. We will give a report of the condition of the materials and a design and performance evaluation of each sail. Below is a Multi-Point Check List that is performed when you bring your sails to Ullman Sails Detroit for servicing:

ALL SAILS

Replace all Telltales
Inspect all seams
Inspect ultra-violet covers and stitching
Inspect edge tapes for chafe and stitching
Check Luff rope for chafe and tears
Clean-up head or Luff rope
Check over corner patches
Inspect leech, foot lines and cleat
Inspect all sail hardware
Examine cloth for fatigue and delamination

MAINSAILS (additional check points)

Inspect reef patches and tie down points
Inspect batten pockets
Check batten pocket elastic
Inspect Headboard
Inspect Slides and Slugs

SPINNAKERS (additional check points)

Fly sail and visually inspect for holes
Inspect seams for pulled stitching
Inspect edge tapes for chafe and stitching
Check for proper tension on edge tapes
